Congers Road encompassed Phase II of the New City Streetscape Revitalization Project with $2 million in funding from Rockland County. This was a cooperative effort to create a gateway from the Route 304 corridor into the hamlet. This section of road mirrored many of the design elements of South Main Street but also required extensive traffic management and utility relocation. A significant ‘road diet’ allowed for additional pedestrian space and handicapped access to existing buildings. Additionally, the team worked with the historic board to update an existing wall and enclosure around a civil war era cemetery. The project also included a small fountain and re-organized access and parking at the New City Town Hall.
