This property is located within the Salt Pond Area Management Plan overlay district and includes a tidal wetland to the north of the property and typical barrier beach landscape to the south. The property abuts the Charlestown Town Beach parking area.
Design goals were to clean up the existing site and remove debris including deteriorated pavestones, refuse and found objects. Seating areas were rebuilt in the existing locations using bluestone and pea gravel surfaces.
Tactical additions to planting plans included privacy evergreens along the parking lot boundary and native shrubs, perennials and grasses in the area directly behind the residence and along pathways as needed. Plant material was selected from CRMC and URI’s plant database http://cels.uri.edu/testsite/coastalPlants/CoastalPlantGuide.htm and in consultation with the Town’s design guidelines.
